Digitally Leeds Awards – the event!

So the last night saw the Leeds Digital Festival draw to a close with the Digitally Leeds Awards and very good they were too (a little too good judging by my head this morning!). I’ve never been to an awards do before, or to the venue the Alea Casino in Clarence Dock but it was most enjoyable.

Our host for the evening was Hodgetastic’s Dom Hodgson and everything ran pretty much like clockwork. The evening started with some informal drinks, then a nice sit down meal (which I was quite impressed with), the awards presentations and finished with some truly awful dad dancing. By me. The tables were even strewn with edible Lego courtesy of Clicknmix. Unfortunately I didn’t win Freelancer of the Year, but I got ‘Highly Commended’ (basically, second place) which I was suited with considering the quality of the competition. I shall definitely be returning next year!

Digitally Leeds Awards

So it appears I’ve been shortlisted for Freelancer of the year at the Digitally Leeds Awards!

The awards – organised by Hodgetastic’s Dom Hodgson (Think Visibility, Leeds Hack Day) – ‘are a night to reward the great work of the Leeds Agencies, Freelancers and Bloggers who work hard to represent Leeds’.

I’m shocked, honoured and more than a little embarrassed to even be shortlisted. Best get the DJ to the dry cleaners! (actually thinking about it, it’s been well over ten years since I’ve worn it, I’m guessing there might now be ‘sizing issues’ as well!).

In collaboration with The Eastfield Marketing I designed and built a website with a full bookings system, an offers section and information about the properties and surrounding countryside.

I also created a social media presence on twitter and Facebook to compliment their website.

Quite excited to be helping with the launch of exciting new wine retailer Yorkshire Vintners. The launch includes an online retail function and a robust social media strategy. …and some tasty wine hopefully!

The site is built on a custom implementation of WordPress and Opencart.

Milton Glaser & Brooklyn Brewery

After a long and productive day at the digital coalface, there’s nothing quite like a cool refreshing beer. A personal favourite is anything from Brooklyn Brewery (I can recommend the pictured Black Chocolate Stout by the way *). This isn’t just because of its cool, refreshing taste * but also because of the design of its packaging and labelling which I’ve always liked.

So I was happy to find out that the entire Brooklyn Brewery identity – from day one – has been designed by New York graphic design legend Milton Glaser.

Good stuff, inside and out!

* Although true, this is an obvious plug in the vain hope that Brooklyn Brewery sends me some free beer.
